Lexy Lovell, LCSW.
I earned my MSW from New York University and my BA in history from Yale University, cum laude. I combine my skills in evidence-based practice with training in longer-term therapy via psychodynamic work. A long time New Yorker, I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, drawing upon previous life experience which includes being a parent to two adult sons. I know the balance needed in protecting children and encouraging them towards independence, to guide them to become citizens of the world and empathic individuals, particularly as young men. My clinical interventions are designed to fit your specific needs. My style is engaging, reflective, and compassionate.
Highlights of my past work include experience empowering immigrants who have fled for their lives seeking political asylum in the U.S. (New Sanctuary Coalition). My previous work in documentary film gave me an entrance into people’s lives most others were not accorded as I was entrusted to amplify voices - breast cancer survivors (Bare Breasted Against Breast Cancer), veterans (The Good Soldier), and teenagers adrift in the Great Depression (Riding the Rails). This grew out of a background in social justice work driven by pioneering educational reform (South Forty Corporation) in prisons (Bayview), working for a suicide hotline (the Samaritans), and implementing training for national and international mental health agencies to increase opportunity and reduce social and economic isolation for clients living with serious mental illness at the flagship “clubhouse model” (Fountain House).
Hi, I'm Lexy
I can think of no other work that brings as much pleasure and reward as the development of human beings. The therapeutic relationship is remarkable, profound, and surprising. It is an honor to come to know each individual over time and to reflect their true worth and dignity.
You get to begin again. I am here to help you find your way.
Let's Dive Deeper
Every object has a history; every person has a past. When I was little, I considered being an archaeologist. I loved exploration. The curiosity remains. In nature, I'm a beachcomber; in the city, I am an urban magpie. It's amazing how many bright, shiny things there are to be picked up, examined, considered. What if we were to give our lives this kind of examination, looking at these small pieces of seeming insignificance? Might they become more and more interesting the closer we look, more relevant, perhaps even enlightening? Are some things lost and other things let go?
